What a Week!
This week has been completely crazy!
Sunday: We all said goodbye to Tim for the week, he left to Wyoming for work. ... Then, we took Austin over to his Dad's to stay the week, and Grandma Polad invited all of us over for dinner! Yum! We had chicken Kabobs and they were great! Shailyn hadn't been feeling well all weekend, but she hadn't complained much so we thought her allergies were bothering her. After we got home, I was trying to get laundry done, and Shailyn started complaining her back hurt, I told her to go get into the shower and see if the warm water would help. Nope! the water was no help! She laid down for a while but around 9:30 she started bawling because she was in so much pain, I rushed Kaysie out of the shower so we could make it to Instacare before they closed (and save me the deductlible I would've had at the ER!) So off we went...
Poor Shailyn felt terrible! You can see it in her eyes, she was in a lot of pain! Come to find out she was having muscle spasms in her back... Unfortunately, there is not a lot you can do for it. My instructions were, give her an ibuprofen every 4 hours, and come back in 4 days if it hasn't gone away (Why did I pay a copay to hear this? I think I could've figured that out on my own!)

Monday: Monday we had Dance rehearsal, of course the girls were fabulous!
then we headed over to visit my Mom and Dad.
Tuesday: We decided to have a girls night! We went out to Applebee's, the girls got Shirley Temple's and we enjoyed dinner together. Then we headed off to get their hair cut (just a trim, Kaysie wanted hers cut to her chin, but I told her she could wait until school starts ~ I can FINALLY pull her hair up and actually do things to it, I know I am being selfish but come on! They are only little once!) Just in time for bed Shailyn started having coughing attacks. I gave her some Triaminic at 10:00, but by midnight the coughs were back so I gave her some Robitussin, then I went to bed. At 2:00 AM she woke me up coughing again... We went to the kitchen and dug through the cupboards for anything that would help... I came up with some Chloroseptic lozenges and a few drops of Nyquil. Finally she was able to sleep! Poor thing I felt so bad!
Wednesday: I let Shailyn sleep in to make sure she was okay, I figured I would not be going into work after our long night; however she woke up at 9:00 AM and was angry I let her sleep in. She said she felt better and she wanted to go to Tammi's today. So I got ready, checked her temperature, stopped and bought some cough medicine, dropped them off and headed to work.
Wow what a long week! Wait ~ it is only Wednesday!!! I hope this week ends better than it started!

School's Out
It seems like the school year just started! This year has been such a great year for all three of my kids, all of them have grown so much I just can't believe it is already over!
Austin attended 7th grade at Spectrum Academy this year. He has progressed leaps and bounds in reading. I am so proud of him! He has never enjoyed reading, but this year he started picking up books and reading them on his own! He has grown up so much this year, socially he has really matured. He officially passed me in height and now stands about 5'4" and wears a size 8 shoe! Austin will be spending the weekdays this summer at his Grandma and Grandpa’s with his Dad. Our summer will not be the same without him every day!
Shailyn attended 4th grade at Bennion Elementary in Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Linton's class. Shailyn is very diverse when it comes to school, she accomplished reading at a 6th grade level, and she is above average in Math! Way to go Shailyn! The past three years (YES, 3! 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade!) her teacher has left mid-year and this has been extremely hard on her. Shailyn is very bright and is able to do anything she puts her mind to, but this year she struggled to turn in her work after the Christmas break (coincidentally right after Mrs. Peterson left.) Besides school, Shailyn was in gymnastics (fall classes), dance and theatre. She is extremely talented! She says next year she wants to go into Karate, we'll see how that plays out.
Kaysie was in Mrs. Duckworth's 2nd grade class at Bennion Elementary. She has grown up so much this past year! Kaysie is very self motivated and loves learning! Her teacher really helped her to reach her full academic potential this year by offering her more challenging work. Kaysie has been working in 3rd grade math and comprehension, she is reading at a 5th grade level, she is already learning cursive and has beautiful handwriting. Kaysie was in gymnastics, dance and theatre this year. She would like to continue with her theatre classes and gymnastics if we can pull it off next year.
I am so proud of my three wonderful kids!

Maturation
Wow, life seems to have gotten a little crazy over the past couple weeks and I haven't had a chance for an update...
Let me just start by saying I am so glad I only have one boy! Last week we headed to Austin's maturation program (Tim was out of town, so I was the privileged one who got to experience this one!) I am not going to go into a lot of detail here, but I do have to share one story. After we got through all of the basics, the teacher starts asking questions about what to do in different situations, Austin has his hand up and is willing to answer any question she asks (I remember being completely terrified when I went to my maturation program! I guess that is just one more difference between girls and boys!) Then, the teacher asks the class "If you are standing in line for lunch and get a spontaneous erection, what can you do?" Of course she called on Austin... He answers with "I would do what Quagmire does". The look of shock crossed the teachers face before she pulled it together and called on another student, I had no idea who Quagmire was, but assumed I didn't want to ask for an explanation. (The correct answer was ways you could hide such things, like putting your lunch tray at waist level, Not what Austin had in mind). After we left, I asked Austin who Quagmire was, he told me he was on Family Guy. I had seen that show, but I didn't care for it and still didn't know who this Quagmire guy was, so I asked Austin what he does... All he would tell me is "you know, mom" after a 20-minute ride home I still had no clue. As expected, I didn't want to know who this cartoon was... It took me asking around and doing Google searches to finally find out he is a pervert with an STD named after him. GREAT! Another joy of parenthood NOBODY warned me about!
